Context
In the competitive natural gas industry, Tenaska aimed to modernize their customer portal to provide seamless access to essential purchase data and vital information, enhancing their service to downstream businesses.
Cross-disciplinary team collaboration
Over a three-month period, we worked closely with Tenaska’s global team, conducting extensive stakeholder and customer interviews, along with heuristic evaluations, to gain deep insights into their needs and industry-specific challenges.
User and business goals
The primary objective was to deliver a superior user experience by simplifying data access and improving administrative processes, ensuring Tenaska’s portal remained a standout service in the energy sector.
My role and responsibilities
As the initial lead product designer, I was responsible for secondary research, stakeholder discovery calls, heuristic, color and brand audits, design iteration and collaboration with our principal product designer to build out the initial design system component library as well as high-fidelity design flows and prototypes, for stakeholder review and validation sessions.
The problem
Tenaska’s existing portal was fragmented, with numerous disparate systems leading to high cognitive load and reduced productivity for both customers and internal teams.
Hypothesized solution
We envisioned a consolidated, intuitive portal interface, designed using industry best practices and design thinking methodologies to enhance efficiency and user satisfaction.
User testing results
User testing revealed that customers highly valued the accurate and timely access to data, with significant positive feedback on the ease of navigation and improved interface design.
Proven value
The new portal delivered immediate improvements in user engagement and satisfaction, providing a modern, efficient platform that supports Tenaska’s strategic goals of enhancing customer service and maintaining a competitive edge in the industry.
Once a large set of user need statements were identified, we were able to collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize the jobs to be done for our MVP.
